Applying for B1 in anticipation of layoff

Hi all,
I was thinking, if it would be a good idea, to apply for a B1 visa, if there is a chance of a layoff?
Of course, I only want the USCIS approval, without a change of status, at the moment.
Looking for advice here.

I don’t think applying B1 is possible without change of status.
