H4 EAD renewal and passport expiry

My spouse traveled and re-entered US to get i94 extended after H1B renewal petition approval. Spouse H4 i94 extended until Oct-2023 (instead of H1B petition end date in 2025) due to passport expiry.

Question:

• If we file H4 EAD now - will we get EAD validity until end of H1B petition validity or i94 validity on Oct-2023?
• Or should we file H4 extension and H4 EAD petition concurrently now? In this case will they get H4 EAD beyond their passport expiry?

If filing separately from H1B, H4 extension of status can be applied within 180 days before the expiry.
