Thanks for the great insights. I am in similar situation. My wife came on H4 and got H1B through a company. She worked for few months but due to location, she wants to move to H4. If we cross border (by land) to Canada and try to re-enter, would she be stamped as H4? Do we need to file for COS before that?

If the spouse has the valid H4 visa stamp in the passport, then, yes, she can use it at Canada/Mexico border to change to H4 visa.

Thanks! Before going to the canada border, do we need to ask employer to revoke the H1B or would it be automatically changed to H4?
