I’m currently on an H1B, and my wife is on H4 with an H4 EAD. Our existing H1B, H4, and EAD are all valid until June 2027.
In August 2025, I changed positions within my company, so my employer filed new H1B and H4 extension petitions with validity through August 2028. Both applications are still pending, but we have the receipt numbers.
At that time, I did not include an H4 EAD renewal in the package since we were covered under the 540-day automatic extension—but that rule has now ended.
My question is:
Can we file the H4 EAD renewal separately now while the new H1B and H4 petitions are still pending, or do we need to wait until we’re within 180 days of the current EAD’s expiration (June 2027)?
