Confusion about H-1B visa interview location in India — Mumbai vs. Hyderabad/Chennai

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to schedule my H-1B visa stamping appointment in India and I’m a bit confused about the correct location.

My previous H-1B visa expired on September 30, 2025, and I now have an approved I-797A valid until August 31, 2028. I’ve already filled out my DS-160 for the Mumbai Consulate, but I recently heard that all H-1B interviews are now being conducted only at the Hyderabad and Chennai consulates.

However, when I check the official U.S. Visa Wait Times website, it shows:

  • Mumbai: ~1 month wait time for H-1B

  • Chennai: ~1 month

  • Hyderabad: ~3 months

  • Delhi and Kolkata: “N/A”

This seems to suggest that Mumbai is still accepting H-1B interviews. Can anyone confirm whether Mumbai is actually processing H-1B visas, or if all H-1B (and H-4) appointments have truly been centralized to Hyderabad and Chennai?

If it’s centralized, should I submit a new DS-160 selecting Hyderabad or Chennai, or can I continue with the one I already submitted for Mumbai?

Would really appreciate if someone who recently went through this could clarify the current situation.

Thanks in advance!

I think that it might be the fingerprint appointment times.

I also heard that they are forcing H1B interview at Hyderabad and Chennai only.

You can use an existing DS160 (if you have already paid the fee).
