Dropbox eligibility for H4 who is 14 years old

Hello, Need Help,
Could you guide me on this situation–While processing the DS-160 for the appointment, my daughter (who is 13), myself, and my spouse were eligible for Dropbox, but my daughter is turning 14 this December 2024. We are planning to visit India in June 2025. How could I make an appointment for the whole family? Either take an in-person appointment for the entire family or take a drop box for myself, my spouse, and in-person for my daughter.

If you want in -person for whole family because your child will not be eligible for dropbox, then, start with adding your child as primary and then add yourself and your spouse in the group.

@shan , can you pls share your experience how you booked the interview appointment? Did you made your 14+ yr son as the primary while booking appt?

Can h4 14 year old go for interview on the bases of i797 if parent doesn’t have stamping but has valid i797

Yes, kid can carry the H1B i797 with most recent H1B i94.

@Sarvesh_Gupta , I think parent must have stamped visa in their passport before kid an appear for the interview. Thats what I learned from forums. I heard from another friend as well who appeared last year.

I am in same situation this year and plan to go to India for Visa stamping.

This forum has helped me get most of the answers that i have been looking at, so a big thanks to you all for sharing your experience here.

My son who has already turned 14 needs to attend F2F interview and since he is dependent under my H1B (i am principal applicant) , i will go with the suggestion from Anil here to select my son as primary applicant in usvisatravel docs portal so that i can go along with him for F2F interview in July 2025 although am eligible for drop box

Question from my side is , Does my wife who is having her own H1B also need to have her visa stamped prior to my son’s F2F? She is doing her drop box independently in June 2025.

Kindly advise?

Hello,

I am in the same suitation. My daugter turned 14+ years and need to go for F2F interview and I am eligible for dropbox.
I talked to the embassy call center they said we should not make kid as primary and myself as dependent and suggested to book separate appointment for her in her own profile.
Did anybody go through this process by making kid a primary and adding yourself (h1) as dependent? Was there any problem?

Please clarify.

Should not be a problem as that website is only for booking a slot as a group.

If you create separate profiles, separate appointment slots will be given, which, i am sure you don’t want.
