H1b COS pending. h4 visa expiring

My h1b COS was picked in 2025 last year’s lottery but still awaiting approval. Meanwhile my h4 visa validity is getting over on april 12th 2026. My spouse is in process of filing his h1b extension but we didn’t include my H4 as we expected my h1b approval long back.

Before filing for my h4 extension want to know few things
1)What happens when h1b gets approved before h4 extension ?
2) Will i be able to withdraw the h4 extension or does h4 extension get cancelled automatically with h1b approval?

Whatever gets approved first will change your status to that one i.e. H1B or H4.

But, if another one gets approved later, then, it will again change your status to that one.

Its complicated.

You can withdraw the pending H4 if H1B gets approved but its not guaranteed as there is no official withdrawal process.
