H4 EAD Reapply after border i94 extension?

Hello, I have applied for H4 and H4 EAD extension in March. My current H4 visa expired on May 31, 2024. In order to get EAD auto extension, I got my i94 updated in Mexico border CBP office on May 22. On May 26, I interfiled my updated i94 to USCIS service center processing my EAD. But there is no update on my EAD application so far. Do I have to reapply for EAD? or I have to interfile my updated i94 once again? What happens to my EAD auto extension, in case my current pending EAD application is rejected due to i94 mismatch?

Interfiling is fine. They don’t send any updates for it.
You don’t need to refile H4 EAD. Just wait for the application to reach a result and you should be fine.

I think you should be able to use the EAD auto extension since you have a new extended H4 i94 and you filed the H4 EAD extension in a timely manner.

They usually send an RFE to ask for a new i94 if they see a mismatch. They should not deny it directly.

Thank you for prompt reply.
I have withdrawn my pending H4 application since i94 was already updated at border. I am concerned because my EAD application was attached to that I539 application, which is now withdrawn. But I have interfiled my updated i94. Is it fine?

It should be fine. I don’t see an issue.

So, it should be okay to join a new job with the pending EAD?

Today my case status changed to “new card being produced”!

Congratulations. Happy for you.

Thank you for writing the AM22Tech blog post on H4 i94 interfiling and generating the app for interfile cover letter. It was super helpful!

I am in the same situation. My H4and H4 EAD application is pending but H1B application is approved. My H4 I 94 is going to expire soon and looking at the timeline, it doesn’t look like it H4 application will be approved before my I94 expires. I’ll lose my job if I can’t get my I 94 extended before it expires. I am thinking of crossing the border using primary H1B I 94 and extending mine. Can you help which location is extending H4 I 94? I am very confused assuming how risky is the process and how it can risk my pending applications? Appreciate any help, please!

I extended my I94 at El Paso, Texas border. If you need full information on the process, you can message me here.

Thank you so much for the information! I need some more details about the process. Did you call them beforehand? Did you had to cross the border all the way to Mexico to see a CBP officer? Was it easy to convince them? Did you cross with primary H1B? Anything else I need to know before crossing?

I will travel from northern side of USA, I need to make sure before I travel. So apologies for so many questions.
