Hi,

Here is a little background: I changed my visa type to H4 from H1B early 2022 and an extension in 2024 but haven’t done the visa stamping yet. I am planning to get the H4 visa stamped for the first time in India. While i am trying to book the appointment for visa, the website says i am eligible for Visa Waiver and can do a drop-off. I am confused on what to do. Isn’t the first stamping of any type of visa an in-person interview at the embassy. Did anyone face a similar issue ? Could some one provide some clarity on this ?

Same visa class means ‘H’ visa type which in your case is same.

So, you are fine. If the website says you are eligible for visa interview waiver, go ahead and book the dropbox appointment.
