My parents live here in the US with me and they have their green card (they are Indian passport holders).
My fathers passport expires in < 1 year and we are looking into getting it renewed at the San Francisco center via tatkal service.
On the online application even though we specify the US address for printable address, the application still requires an India address, police station associated with the India address provided, and an India phone number. I had a few questions in that regard
- Should we provide my parents house address in India (they have a home in Bangalore), but the home is locked since my parents are here. I wasn’t sure what sort of police verification is done and if someone will physically go to that address.
- Should we provide a relative’s address (is it okay if they live in a different city in India or does it have to be in the same city where my parents home is).
- Is it better to provide a relative’s phone number in India or my fathers India mobile number (his India mobile number is active and he can use it here in the US). Again I am not sure what purpose the phone number serves. I am concerned that if someone from India calls on that phone for any sort of verification in India then…my parents may be asleep and unable to answer the phone.
I called the VFS customer service and spoke for about 15 minutes (they charge about $2.5/minute you speak to them). The agent told me that you can choose which you want and they were not sure what the police verification does or does not do.
Has anyone been in similar situation and if so what approach did you take wrt India address on the form. Please share your experience.
