Is it mandatory enter aadhar number in government online passport application?

I am in the process of renewing my Indian passport in the USA as my old passport expires in a few months.I have an Aadhar card but there is a spelling error (th is entered as d) in my surname. I am printing my US address on my passport. Due to the spelling error I am hesitant to enter my Aadhar number in the government online application. Is it ok to not enter the Aadhar number even though I have an Aadhar card? Or will there be no issues if I enter my Aadhar number since I am not going to submit any physical copy of my Aadhar?
