Issues with Indian Passport renewal via VFS Global

I have gone through the website of the police station and it has the same information as the passport seva site. The information is at a high level and therefore doesn’t fit all the cases!
There are many other police stations outside of the list that is shown there and not every police station is authorized to do verification process for passport
There are ample cases where for filing FIR etc the local police station in your locality will do but for passport verification there is some other police station
how are we supposed to know that?

What is needed here is a reverse look up where user will key in the address/PIN Code and then the site will show you the police station serving it!

I was saying Dr Jayashankar because the problem I see here is lack of thought process. This needs to be raised to the highest level.

I had the same question as I saw everywhere it says labels and not label.
However it seems the process has changed slightly recently (dont know when) but nowadays only one way label is being generated. Return label will be generated by vfs.

Are u applying in the SFO consulate? In my case, I choose the wrong district (From d weird Passport site prospective, the district is different from actual one) from the drop down and wrong police station (25 km from my india address) got selected. I had to call/email several times to the email but no one responded until i email the Head of the consulate with an emotional email and then got the reply immediately. They changed the PS immediately and it took me 2 bloody months to get my renewed passport, grrrrrr!!!

In your case, first fig out what’s the nearest PS for your India address:
How? PS tracker: https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/locatePS (U need to put your city in the district and see). Same thing happened to me.
Actual District: Khurda & City: Bhubaneswar - went to wrong PS (Khurda PS)
Passport District: Bhubaneswar Urban and select the right PS nearby

Hi, I have the same problem, there is no space between the first address line and apartment number. Did you face any issue during passport delivery?

I had the same issue as you have mentioned in my return label. My passport was however delivered fine without any issues.

My timelines were as follows:

Adult Passport renewal,
Normal Process,
NYC consulate,
First time renewal in USA,
No change in India address.

  • 30th Jan: Package dropped at Fedex.
  • 1st Feb : Package picked up by Fedex.
  • 4th Feb : Package delivered by Fedex to Fedex.
  • 5th Feb : Acknowledgement from VFS about receiving the documents via email.
  • Till 11th Feb: Tracking status in VFS website says Invalid Inputs.
  • 12th Feb: In-Transit to the Embassy/Consulate. (Tracking status from VFS)
  • 12th Feb: Passport application along with fee details have been received. The same is under processing at the Embassy/Consulate. (Tracking status from Government website)
  • 13th Feb: Your application has reached at the Embassy/Consulate and is currently under process. (Tracking status from VFS)
  • 19th Feb: Passport application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate. (Tracking status from Government website)
  • 24th Feb: Print has been initiated for passport. (Tracking status from Government website)
  • 25th Feb: Passport has been printed. (Tracking status form Government website)
  • 2nd Mar: Passport is printed and will be delivered shortly. (Tracking status form Government website)
  • 2nd Mar: Passport has been handed over by the Embassy/Consulate to the OSP executive for further dispatch to the applicant. (Tracking status form Government website)
  • 3rd Mar: Your application has been processed by the Embassy/Consulate and returned to the VFS Indian Consulate application Centre. (Tracking status from VFS)
  • 3rd Mar: Your application has been dispatched by the VFS Indian Consular application Centre. If you had purchased VFS courier (FedEx) then please track the delivery status of your application using FedEx.com If you had opted for your own pre-paid labels then please track the status using the tracking system of your courier service provider. (Tracking status from VFS)
  • 3rd Mar: FedEx tracking shows that the package should be delivered on 4th Mar.
  • 4th Mar: Passport delivered at home.

I did not received any email regarding passport verification. The reason for it might be that I had mentioned in my self sworn affidavit that I have not been staying outside India continuously for 5 years.

Yes, its SFO. I have reached out to CGI again. Let’s see if he replies this time. How I wish I could have travelled to India and get it done there without any hassles.

I put the word “apartment “ before the actual number so that the delivery person has no confusion about it. When I received my package it had a different return label than what I printed and had my apartment number in the next line.

Timeline for minor applicant Normal application no address change. Total 16 days including shipping.

02/21 - Application sent via Fedex to Chicago
02/23 - Fedex delivered the application to VFS
02/24 - Confirmation from VFS (We have ‘Received’ your Application and your application is now ‘Under Process’ at Chicago)
03/03 - Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the VFS India Consular application Centre and currently is ‘In-Transit‘ to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making.
03/05 - Your Application has been reviewed by the Embassy of India/ Consulate General of India & will be dispatched within 24 – 48 business hours provided you had purchased or sent the return label.
03/05 - Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you.
03/05 - VFS INDIA CONSULAR CENTRE-CHICAGO of VFS Services USA Inc sent xxxxxx 1 FedEx Standard OvernightÂŽ package(s).
03/05 - This shipment was tendered to FedEx Express on 03/05/2021.

Feb 16, 2021 - Docs reached VFS center
Feb 17 - Received application, under process at VFS
Feb 18 - In transit to embassy
Feb 18 - Reached embassy.
Feb 19 - Passport application along with fee details have been received. The same is under processing at the Embassy/Consulate. (Govt Site)
Feb 19 - Your application has reached at the Embassy/Consulate and is currently under process(VFS)

No further update on application.

I am having a very bad experience with passport renounciation with VFS NYC. I submitted my application on Nov 2020. Till now Iam chasing them spending my money for calls close to $114. But no response from them. They missed my prepaid label & didn’t even care to communicate or update anything till I made calls to customer service & enquired them. At last I paid again for my courier label & they did’nt even send me till today. I put queries on pramit. Copied my emails to consulates general of India. I did get a response from consulate saying that they have asked vfs to expedite the service. But after they involved also these guys are not responding. I think Indian embassy’s voice is also not heared there. So waste of time to contact them too. Because of the pressure I created they called me & said they will despatch the passport & I will get it Saturday. But I don’t have tracking details & they have not updated me. I have not received my passport yet. Planning to go to their office directly.

Pls be beware of them. Horrible customer service I have ever seen. Even if you email them through their website you will not get answers of what you want. Pls don’t spend money on calls. Iam advising you from my experience. These guys are sitting in customer service & does’nt even know the info of the application even we know. The processing times are again horrible. After I sent them the application Iam getting the acknowledgement after a week. And I don’t know when they will start to process it. What I heared from embassy in NYC is even after they despatch the passports to them they are not sending it immediately for no reason. So don’t wait if you see a status that your application is despatched from embassy. They are ripping off the customers like this. Such a worst service.

This is absolutely ridiculous. It hasn’t even moved to “under review”.

Did you reach out to CGI-NY through email and/or Twitter. People apply under Tatkal for a reason and pay almost twice. They should refund you the difference since they failed to provide the service they charged you for.

My daughters passport is stuck too for monre than a month. First 2 “pramit” queries were answered responded asking for patience! The other query after 2 weeks is still not responded to. Crazy
