L1 and L2 VISA extension receipt notice received, Spouse Current EAD expiring on May 2022

Hi , Currently I applied for L1 A Extension my spouse having L2 EAD which is expiring on May. Both L1 , L2 received extension receipt notice from USCIS. Can 180 day automatic renewal be applied for my spouse current EAD ? is there any progress involved. Do my spouse still need to apply for EAD extension ? I am bit confused with the current 180 day extension. Can you please clarify ?

When your L2 is approved this time , it will have I-94s attached which in itself will server the purpose of EAD. So no need to renew EAD.
As far as I understand, once the L2 extension of status is approved with I-94s and when you apply for EOS next time in a timely fashion, you will get automatically 180 days extension of I-94s.
If you want to continue your employment this time, you can visit the CBP at Mexico or Canada border and they can issue I-94s to the L2.
