Regarding Anil's latest tweet about h1b extensions

H1B extensions will be in trouble for many people waiting in the backlog!
God knows what they have planned.
If the extension is denied, it will be a challenge to stay.
Also, what will happen to the approved PERM and then GC? Will they narrow down their definition too?

Hi @anil_am22

Your post is very disturbing. How confident are you about the speculation being made, given there are millions of people waiting in backlog. And when will we know the full details of this new h1b re-form

Thanks in advance

Currently, they have proposed those new h1b rules.

It will take time (6+ months) for them to finalize and publish the final rules. Final rules may be the same as proposed or different.

Only time will tell how strictly they are applied for h1b extension/renewals. But, the fact that they are making the h1b job strictly attached to the educational (specific) degree, does show that their intent is to make big changes.

I will share more as I get to know about it.

Thanks @anil_am22

Masters in computer science - Software engineering job (what more direct co-relation can anyone expect?)

Job duties in any company is blurred or so broad. Are they expecting Masters in Machine learning to do machine learning related job? That is not the case for 95% of the people in real world. Are they going to deport everyone with this regulation, doesn’t look like it’ll happen for close to a million people.

Maybe they are targeting electrical engineering background doing Tech roles. Hope that’s their intention.

Regards,
Manoj

Yes, they are targeting non-job related degrees.

It is not yet absolutely clear as to what correlation they will draw but yes, the electrical engineering degree might not be eligible for a software engineering job to start with.

Some attorneys are also saying that work experience of 3 years might be counted as equal to 1 year of education in that specific field.

Time will tell once they publish the final rules.
