Sample Power of attorney for NRI (Non-Resident Indian)
Registered Power of Attorney - Applicable for both NRI and people in India
To make the Power of attorney legally valid, it should be registered. It is not mandatory but strongly recommended.
NRI - Once you get the POA attested, you would send it to India by mail or by hand (somebody carries it). It then needs to be registered in the Sub-divisional magistrate office or registrar’s office.
Complete step by step process to register the POA in India is available here:
@Anil_Gupta Thanks! The GPA template that i currently have requires the Attorney elected’s signature and passport size photograph. Do you know if i can leave that field blank and get the rest of the document which includes the executant’s details attested by the consulate?
Hi @Anil_Gupta,
My case is that my wife and I are joint owners of a flat in India. We are selling off our flat. I will be going to India to get the sale and all formalities completed. What do I need to do to get the Power of Attorney from my wife to me for this transaction to be completed. As I am in the US, how can I get it registered in India?
Hi @Anil_Gupta , I live in USA on H1B visa having Indian passport. I am planning to buy land in India. Do you have any sample special power of attorney format to buy land in India.
