Skiplagging, Canadian visa required?

Im flying to Portland from LA next week. I bought a skiplagged ticket since it was much cheaper.

LAX → PDX
PDX → Vancouver (skipping second flight to Vancouver, staying in Portland)

They are 2 separate flights with different flight numbers.

Will I be asked to show Canadian visa in my passport when I depart from LAX?
I am an Indian passport holder and I don’t plan on applying for a Canadian visa since I am getting off at Portland.

I imagine my first leg ticket from LAX should just show PDX as the destination.

Most probably, yes, they will ask to show the Canadian visa.
Also, the checked in luggage (if any) might be offloaded only at final destination.

Airlines usually don’t like people who do skip lagging.
