Chances are usually low for an invite in 489/491 category. It is better to target 189 or 190 PR visa.

Hi Anil,

I had applied for 189 with 75 points back in April 24, 2019. As the chances of invite were less for 75, we wanted to use the additional point of competent english for spouse. My wife got the result today and she has scored more than 50 in all categories.

  1. Please can you let me know how to update the same in my application
  2. If I update it now will that push me towards the starting of the queue as I submitted my EOI on April.

Hi @sam5

You have to log in to your application and update spouse details but only English score does not fetch any points until Nov 16.

The DOE will change if the total points will change.

Hi Anil,

I am not able to update spouse details in the application. Please help. When I try to update , its asking for skill assessment status. I have not done skills assessment for my wife and this inturn is preventing me from adding spouse english score.

The chances of invite are low with 75 points for 189. The state may invite though with 80 points. There is no fixed time frame for state invites.

In my EOI, I have kept state nomination as “Any state”. Can you advise me which state is good for Software engineer guys? and which state has the possibility of inviting?

For Software Engineer, the most favorable states are Victoria (Melbourne) and NSW (Sydney).

But, NSW will not invite if you are not a current NSW resident.

@Anil.Gupta Can you please tell me if there would be chances of an invite in 189 visa with 85 points after the new Nov 2019 points system change kicks in? I have estimated 85 points based on below criteria:

  • I am 36 years old
  • My ansczo code is 261313 software engineer
  • I have Superior English (PTE already cleared)
  • I plan to clear Naati exam asap, by Jan/Feb next year (adding 5 points for that)
  • My spouse has competent English (IELTS already cleared, so adding 5 points for that)
  • My ACS evaluation is less than 8 years. It will be 8+ years after May next year.
    Based on above factors, I should have 85 points by May next year. Can you tell me if this would be a competent score with new points system and when can I expect an invite next year, i.e. how much wait considering that my 8 years work experience kicks in in May 2020 and so Date of effect will be May 2020 with 85 points?
