Applied for tatkal to NY Indian consulate 3 weeks back, some missing documents submitted 1 week back…no response after this. Contacting VFS is like banging head against the wall, if you are lucky to get reply, you geta standard one of escalation which is as good as useless. I cannot imagine how VFS is is business with thins kind of attitude.
The weather is cold in NY, and NY consulate people are fast asleep than doing their work. This experience gives the state of Indian babus work overall. It’s a shame of NY Indian consulate and VFS for their overall service and it’s a shame for being an Indian to have to complain about my own country services on a foreign land. How much ever we thump our chest, we are still a third world country where babus think people service as their fiefdom. With the post here and numerous people undergoing this stress, I hope NY Indian consulate will wake up from their deep slumber and address the issues in a respectable and efficient manner.
@thanmayisri Hey, I got a note from VFS that they couriered the passport. When i checked the Fedex, for some reason the tracking number says - Duplicate shipments. one with a status of In Transit and the other one with a shipping label created. I hope the one in transit is mine and is supposedly deliver tomorrow. If not, i have a whole new problem to deal with Fedex… The whole process has been a mess with VFS, Fedex… Shame on them to change the vendor from CKGS to the worst vendor across the globe the VFSGlobal…
@Duvvuri Don’t worry it was the same duplicate shipment, you will get it. After getting police verification email , did verification take place at your address in India ?
In the same boat. I got an email on 12/15 saying it’ll be dispatched in 24 hours. It’s 12/21 and nothing yet. Fedex doesn’t show anything with the tracking number.
One suggestion- Check if one of the label is when you created labels first time and second label (though same number)is when shipped by VFS and picked up by Fedex.
Thanks everyone for posting your experience. Here is mine to help people get some sense of timelines.

None, In fact the police verification has nothing to do with the progression of the passport process. This has been my experience with the two passports of the family renewed since VFS became the vendor.
