You will have to wait for old Passport since you are going for a completely new application and process repeat.

You can keep everything ready - incl. Govt. application, and as soon as you get passport (along with other documents) send in your application with the old passport.

Did you check with VFS if they can accept a new application against existing existing application (chances are remote) or, they asked you to go for cancellation and refund? Or, you just went directly for refund. Check with VFS what options you have.

Only sending to vfs label.
Return label will be printed by vfs
(Vfs website once you login and go to print shipping label menu clearly states that you will see)
I know it was both ways label in the past but that has changed since the last few months

Regarding questions 2&3
2. Yes right they won’t I reported the same problem here when I was preparing my application last month. Solution is go to UPS store. Most of them have a notary who will notarize by charging $5 per page or something like that
3. Black and white copy is fine.

No idea about Q:1 as I didn’t do renewal for a minor.

I am applying for Passport Renewal at NY consulate. Do I need to Notarize and also do my own Sign on Green Card and License? Or just Notary Stamp and Notary Signature?
Basically, I know I need to notarize the Green Card and License but I am not sure if I also need to do my own Sign on above two documents…Can anyone help me here? THANKS!!!

You will be signing those in front of a Notary, stating you have a true copy of those documents with you.

Annexure E and Self Sworn Affidavit are not required to be notarized.

Only US Status, US address and Change in Appearance/signature need notarization.

I have reached US recently, like a month ago, and I have no USA address proof as I am staying at my relatives place. In the embassy application form, in the address part, can I mention both - the printable address and other address, two different indian address? or is it mandatory to give 1 USA address(other address)?

Hi,

In ‘SELF SWORN AFFIDAVIT’ template you mentioned that ‘I have stayed outside India for last 5 years.’ Technically I have not stayed outside India for last 5 years. Is it okay if I change the template to 3 years instead of 5 years?

You cannot change the template. You can only check whether you have/have not been residing outside of India for more than 5 years.

Hi… Did u have to obtain any pre approval from embassy for tatkaal application as mentioned in this article?
There is no mention on the government webiste for any pre approval for applying under tatkaal.
Also did you submit the “change of appearance/ signature affidavit” as I see mixed response for the requirement of this affidavit.

They are allowing tatkal without ‘pre-approval’ due to COVID.

Normally, they do ask for pre-approval but it seems they have waived this requirement at this time.

Two last questions:

  1. We need just 2 photographs, one to paste on govt form print & other on “No change of appearance affidavit”. We dont need to send any additional photographs separately right?
  2. We are submitting original passport. I have taken color copies of passport to keep with me as we do not know how long would it take to receive the passport back with the new one. What else to keep to be on safer side. Would there be any need of it during this period? I am on F1 visa?

  1. You do not need to send any additional photograph
  2. Keep scanned copy (in color) of all originals you are sending, including all pages of passport with entry/exit stamps and Visas

Hi Anil,

My wife has applied for AOS (I-485 as my dependent) and she is currently in “Awaiting AOS” status. Basically she does not have H4, but is staying in US because she has applied for I-485 in Oct 2020. I have renewed my H1 as of April 1st and hers is not renewed for some reasons. She has already applied for I-765 and got her EAD/AP. Her passport is expiring in Oct 2021 and we are trying to apply for her renewal under Tatkal scheme. In VFS global , there is question asking “Do you have legal status in the USA?”. We are thinking she is in Legal status because she is awaiting AOS and has her EAD etc. Is this correct understanding?

If AOS pending was not legal status, how would you be able to stay in the US?

Yes, you can use the pending status to apply passport renewal.
