Indian Embassy PCC Process (in USA for NRI)

Could you please confirm if we need to send original passport or notarized copy would suffice for pcc from indian embassy ?

The information on website says notarized copy.

Hi @rajeevchandramca

Original passport is required but they have made an exception due to COVID if you read the embassy page.

They have clearly mentioned that you are allowed to send notarized copy and not original passport due to Coronavirus situation.

Hi Anil,
Thank you for your patient answers. They clarified most of my questions except one important one of mine.

I am living in US for a few years and currently dont have any address of residence back in India. How do I apply for PCC?
Thank you,
shar

Hi @strngerstruggle

Did you read the full article for getting Indian PCC in the USA?

New York consulate provides PCC same day. They take roughly 1-1.5 hour.
It does not matter if your passport was issued at NYC consulate.
That office is super efficient! Much better than any US government office per my experience.

Hi,
I have been in India since March 2020 though I was working in the US before coming here to renew my US visa; I got stuck here due to covid closures. Can I get PCC from the local passport Seva Kendra while I am here (for almost 6 months this year)? My permanent address is the same as in my passport. I will be moving back to USA in a month or so, and am waiting for the Australian 189 visa invitation (95 points, life scientist). Please let me know if you can.
Thanks
Ravi

Hi @Ravindra_P_N

You can apply PCC at Indian passport office but a physical address police verification would be required.

Thanks, @anil_am22.

Update: I went to Bangalore Passport office today and finished the process there. They asked for police verification because my current passport was issued in Canberra though my permanent address is the same. The police verification happened on the same day after I returned to my place. I am hoping to get the certificate by post soon.

Hi,

I have seen in one of the posts on this forum that for PCC applications, Police verification is only done if the address on passport is more than 13 years old i.e. the passport with the same address was issued more than 13 years ago. Is this accurate?
I have recently applied for PCC and i am worried there might be a delay if it goes for police verification in India. The house is closed as myself and my parents live abroad which may cause delay in verification.
My first passport with the current address was issued in June 2009.
Please advise on this.

Hi,

I need help to get to know about some process and timeline to get PCC from Indian consulate embassy Atlanta US,

I’m planning to travel to Canada on November 15th 2020, but before that I would need to have PCC with me.

If I apply for PCC now, how long would it take to get it delivered?

Do I need to send my Original Passport?

I have just recently renewed my Indian Passport from Indian Embassy Atlanta,

Please help me out in this situation.

Thanks,

Tushar

Hi,

I am applying for PCC from the Chicago Embassy. The required documents mention current valid passport. I recently got my passport renewed from Chicago, and and planning to send it with the application. However, my valid US visa is in the old passport. Do I need to send that too? If yes, are photocopies of 1st five and last 2 pages required of the old passport as well?

Thanks,
Renuka

You only need to send the most recent valid passport. For US visa, you can send copies.

@nawaf did it work out for you? I am in a similar situation.

Thanks for the response, Anil. As I mentioned earlier, my current passport was issued in the Chicago embassy, and that is where I have applied for my PCC as well. So I was not expecting police verification to be initiated in India, as the website says that they can provide PCC within a week if the passport was issued by the same embassy. However, it has gone for police verification in India, and the passport officer at the police station has told my parents to wait till the beat-constable visits our home for the verification.
I know that police stations in other smaller cities allow the applicant’s families to visit them with the required documents to expedite the process. Many of my friends have done so for their PCC. However, the police station in my area is not allowing that.
It has already been more than 2 weeks since I applied, and need the PCC urgently. Would you know ho to resolve this matter?

Hi,
This blog looks like it has lot of information about PCC and I was wondering if someone can help me.
I’m an Australian citizen holding an Aus passport currently living in New Jersey. My wife has applied for Aus PR and the case officer would need me to submit my PCC. I do not see relevant PCC information for Aus citizens with OCI in New York Misc services. I have applied from the form posted in this site and have not received any reference from PRAMIT. Any suggestions, please.

Hi @anil_am22

Following your article, I submitted PCC application to Indian Consulate in San Francisco but Indian Consulate returned it back in a day with a sticky note to “submit PCC application form to Washington Consulate”.

I moved from Maryland to Seattle, Washington 3 months back, and because Seattle comes in Indian Consulate, San Francisco jurisdiction. I transfered my DL to washington state to provide an address proof for PCC. I prepared my file as per instructions and attached washington state DL as residence proof. My application don’t have Maryland address at all.

I am in rabbit hole with that sticky note from indian consulate, if my application is wrong that sticky note doesn’t give suffice information to fix the issue and resubmit my application or why I should submit application to Washington consulate.

Now, if I start a new application for Washington consulate, there are high chances of getting application return because of submission from a wrong jurisdiction.

I have been trying to reach Indian Consulate, San Francisco for a week, it appears our consulate is short on staff or doesn’t bother to serve the requests. Any suggestion on moving forward with my application? Your reponse will be much appreciated.

This is strange. I think they have confused it with the name ‘washington’, which is not a normal thing that happens.

Unfortunately, SFO Indian embassy is working with very limited workers and may not even respond in time.

I think at this point of time, you can email both SFO and washington DC Indian embassy to ask for clarification.

Hello. We have applied for a PCC for my father (immediate relative based USA Adjustment of Status) with the Indian Consulate in NYC on March 16, 2021. We followed up with them last week about the status - where they informed us that the Police Clearance is pending from the police station in India as mentioned on the application.
Does any one know how long this takes and if we should follow up with the local police station in India? If you suggest so - then should it be at the Police Station or the Regional Passport office?
We are nearing the submission date on the RFE so wanted to check what we can do to expedite the process. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.
PS: The PCC is requested as a RFE after clearing the final interview as my father is 80 years old and has very weak finger prints - so were rejected twice.

HI Anil: It looks like the process for PCC from SFO consulate has changed from May 21. They handled everything through VFS. No processing times are mentioned. Couple of questions for you:

  1. Any recent experiences of how long this could take?
  2. Instead of SFO consulate, is it okay to get PCC from local police station in India? I will take my parents help or the same

I want to use it for I485 filing for using Consular processing. Option 2 above isn’t clearly mentioned in state department guidelines. It just says: consulate/embassy if you reside in US (which I do)

Thanks in advance for the help
