How much time embassy took for you to re-new the passport?what are option to follow up with them except Pramit

One month.VFS wasted 16 days.

So…in total 46 after submitting application…in my case VFS wasted 1 month.
Currently application under review with embassy.
It will go to Police verification after this?? Or this stage only police verification happens

plain paper .with you and your spouse signature and passport numbers…and then get it notarized

One month in total. Of which 16 days taken by VFS.

Here are my passport renewal timelines. Once in a day I use to check the status in both VFS website and Govt. website. Hope this helps.

  • Adult Passport renewal,
  • Normal Process,

Finally, I have received my renewed passport from Indian Embassy SFO.

Below are timelines for My Normal passport renewal application via Indian Embassy/Consulate SFO .

Total time taken is 39 days(5 Weeks+4days) including shipping + holiday’s + 1 week delay at VFS Global SFO for no reason + 2 weeks of wait time in Indian Embassy SFO with no progress after application is received.

12/03 – Dropped shipment in Nearest Fedex office, missed same day slot as i dropped late evening.(Better to drop before noon so that Fedex will send overnight and it will be received by VFS Global next day EOD).

12/04 – Application sent on nextday from Fedex office to SFO .

12/05 – Fedex delivered the application to VFS Global SFO address (Tracking package status is showing delivered and received by VFS Global SFO.)

12/07 – Expected VFS Global will update the status to Documents are received (But no change in status till 12/14).

12/14 – Received confirmation from VFS Global SFO saying (We have ‘Received’ your Application and your Application is now ‘Under Process’ at ICAC in Consulate General of India, SFO).

12/14 – Not sure why VFS Global took 1 week to update the status as documents received(This is an unnecessary delay of 7 days).

12/16 – Sent to India Embassy SFO ( Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the ICAC and ‘In Transit’ to the Embassy for decision making.)

12/17 – File number created in Passport portal under the application table of Gov reference number and Passport application status got changed to ‘under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate’ .

12/17 – Application status is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate till 12/30 with no progress. If some information is required from Applicant’s end they can respond back . Not sure why it is unnescessarily kept at their end saying under review (2 weeks of time we can still consider it as 9 working days as 25th is holiday).

12/31 – Application Status updated to 'Print has been initiated for passport.

01/01 – Police verification mail received.

01/02 – Police verification happend at local police station given in application. ( Local police passport verification department called to the number given and reached the address given for futher identification and informed my parents that i have to call verification officer. I have reached him on same day, police officer shared list of documents required for police verification.I have shared requested documents to their email and some chai-pani stuff-- This may vary in your case).

01/04 – Passport is printed.

01/05 – Passport is printed and will be delivered shortly.

01/06 – still waiting for the status to be updated from ‘Passport is printed and will be delivered shortly’ in Govt Portal , and at VFS Global portal(It is still showing as ‘Your application has reached the Embassy’) Expected it will reach to VFS Global office on 01/06 not sure what is going on even when passport is printed and for whom it is unnescessarily waiting there. Even am tracking Fedex return Shipping label which i have. I dont see any progress which is quiet wierd, even though passport is printed am not understanding why it is still sitting in India Embassy/Consulate and what is the use of of being there from last 2 days.

01/07 – Status changed in VFS Global -Global-PassportTracking to “Your application has been dispatched from Embassy”

01/08 – Your application has been dispatched via courier, VFS Global SFO received Passport and Dispatched package to Fedex.

01/11 – Fedex package received , finally rececived Renewed passport.

Over all 1 week (12/07 to 12/14 it was simply lying in VFS Global SFO office this is truly negligance from VFS Global SFO. If all documents are correct they can finish validation in 1-2 days.

From 12/17 to 12/31 - 2 weeks of time taken by Indian Embassy SFO to process Applicaition not sure why it took 2 weeks to process application when all documents are in place and nothing is required from applicants end.

Fedex is doing pretty good job as to and fro shipping are being done in 2-4 days considering if sunday may fall in middle.

Note :

If all necessary documents are provided by applicant, even the normal passport renewal process can be done in 2-3 weeek’s (Consider shipping weekend’s/holidays and everything). If every one(VFS Global/Indian Embassy work properly ontime, even normal process can be done in 2-3 weeks. considering 2 weeks of unnecessary wait time for no reason in my case).

In my assumption VFS Global/Indian Embassy want to prove to applicant’s that normal passport renewal process will take time and forcing applicant’s to opt tatkal processing for no reason , where VFS Global/Indian Embassy can squeeze more dollars in the name of tatkal process.

If everyone works as per the policies and guidelines there is no point of opting for tatkal process(unless there is any emergency case) and we can get renewed passport in 2 weeks including holiday’s even in normal process.

Must do something about this. This issue has been causing stress and anxiety for most of the people who need to undergo this meaningless and delayed useless process.

It’s looks like VFS global delays on purpose to update status the first time to create anxiety among people who sent their passport forcing them to make paid phone call. Every person will have anxiety when there is no update for weeks. I assume this is a low scum strategy applied by VFS to extract money from people.

NY Indian embassy, it’s absolute shame on this consulate for never responding to even a single PRAMIT request raised, showing it’s pathetic attitude towards Indian Citizen. As said earlier if a consulate in a country like US behaves this way and has such an indifferent attitude. I feel sad for people in India who are less priveledged and has to fight such a rotten government system.

For me it took 46 days. My passport was submitted on 24th Nov and I received renewed passport on 01/11. Pathetic experience.

Passport renewal process @ VFS in New York.
Nov 12 - VFS received my renewal passport application + pasport.
Nov 18 - VFS reviewed and forwarded to Indian Embassy in New York.
-----Silence----
Jan 12 - I checked the status in PRAMIT where it changed from Pending to Replied.

I do not understand what is happening with my application and why a delay of almost 2 months? Please share your understanding. Thx

That is so true. In fact, VFS is a redundant unnecessary evil in this process and it is clearly a product of the corrupt mindset that Indian bureaucrats have inherited from having passport agents in India. This way VFS has been imposed on us as a compulsory “passport agent” that we are forced cough out money on the top of regular passport fees. We pay $ 75 as a passport renewal fees for being in the US and it already includes the cost of processing the papers and being responsive to applicants.

Comparing it with the fee charged in India, this is already much higher fees. On the top of it we end up paying VFS in multiple ways approximately $20 to $100 (processing fee+calls, even if we exclude delivery charges).

Going into the roots of this issue, we see that qualified and smart candidates find it difficult to enter into the Indian government jobs. In stead, lazy and corrupt minded people find it easy to make their way into government jobs. So no surprise we see the shameful state of affair in passport renewal.

This issue has to be publicized widely as reviews.

So, no police verification happened in your case. is that correct?

Yes, think so. I did not get any info about that. Not sure if that happened or not.

Hello All,

My passport reached VFS on 06th Jan and reached Consulate, Houston on 11th Jan. Consulate handed over the new passport to VFS agent on 12th Jan. As per VFS, it was shipped on 13th Jan to my address, with the FedEx label generated by me and sent to them. But, I am not able to track it in FedEX site with the tracking number mentioned in the label. Still it shows, ’ Label Generated’. I sent mail to VFS, there is no response.

Can someone throw some light how we can track it now? I dont have any clue. Please help.

Rathna,
I would suggest you to please visit the VFS and provide them details of reference and collect it personally. Maybe they would have misplaced somewhere and would be struck there in their office.
Dont waste your time. This is whats happening with the immigration processes too.
