Yes, the tracking only begins when you get an email saying that VFS has received your documents and is processing it. Also, tracking only works with “Govt reference number”- both on VFS site and govt site.
The same problem here - I can go to - https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/welcomeLink and use the govt reference number. It just says that the application is submitted for the last three days. I am not sure if that is the current status or it just refers to the fact that we have submitted the online application. VFS received my application on Monday at 8 AM. I have not heard from them yet and when I am trying to track the status on the VFS website it says ‘invalid input’.
i sent only downloaded fedex courier label with home address.

He sent a cover page with all the details of his application (reference numbers, name, passport number and other details of application), then added missing documents and mailed it to the same address he did before (VFS center). I’d also attach a print of the email they sent asking for whatever document was missing.
My documents reached to VFS SFO on 11/16, no acknowledge email from VFS and tracking show Invalid Inputs

Very nice. I applied on the same date. but haven’t received yet. Couple questions,
(1) Did you apply under Tatkal or normal? Mine is normal.
(2) What does it show on your Fedex tracking? I mean time and signed by who? I am trying to figure whether it was delivered at the right place or not. Mine shows “Thursday 11/12/2020 at 8:52 am, signed by S.HUNTE”.

let me know if anyone got the police verification in india for the passport renewal in regular processing. i have not received the SMS/call in india. my application is still under review in consulate office.
I applied it under Normal. Most likely you will get anytime.
